THE VALUE OF A FLEXIBLE MINDSET

Updated: Jun 27, 2021

LIFE IS NOT AS CUT AND DRY AS WE SOMETIMES IMAGINE, UNCONSCIOUSLY, WE AS INDIVIDUALS OFTEN PUT INVISIBLE BOUNDARIES AROUND OUR EXPECTATIONS. THESE INVISIBLE BOUNDARIES OFTEN STEER OUR EXPECTATIONS WELL BELOW OUR CAPABILITIES.

What is the answer to overcoming this?

A flexible mindset.

You may be thinking, ‘what is the difference between a flexible mindset and a fixed mindset’? An individual with a fixed mindset will never face a challenge, they will always avoid them for fear of failure. Whereas an individual with a flexible mindset has the ability to take whatever is going on in their stride. They are not afraid of failure because they see it as a learning experience.

Therefore, there is little doubt the benefits of a flexible mindset far outweigh that of a fixed mindset. A flexible mindset encourages you to go with the flow of life and in doing so, your personal growth is constant.

If you practice mindfulness as you go with the flow of life, your ability to readjust your expectations in every situation will always assist you to hold on to your momentum as you continue to move forward toward your goals.

If you do not have a flexible mindset you tend to avoid any kind of challenge that you feel may be difficult for you. This keeps you stuck in a time warp. Your life becomes a struggle between what you are trying to avoid and what will help you grow.

It is impossible to set goals and reach them with a fixed mindset because any challenge sees this individual retreat.

Having a flexible mindset takes courage, however, the benefits far outweigh the negatives. For example, how often are your plans thrown off course? A flexible mindset will encourage you to just keep moving forward, going with the flow as opposed to just abandoning the whole plan.

Can you see how significant a flexible mindset is to setting goals and reaching them?

Having a flexible mindset cultivates patience and kindness. It also creates an ability to see beyond the circumstances and look at the bigger picture of your life. Kindness is a virtue that is foundational to living a peaceful life. There is little doubt that living a peaceful life is the foundation of a flexible mindset.

When we are able to look outside of our own lives and see the bigger picture we begin to see the unique value every individual has to offer. We begin to look at every situation as a learning experience with intrigue not fear.

Every experience is relative to the tapestry of our lives. There are no mistakes, people and circumstances, good and bad all play a significant part in creating the impressive tapestry that one day will be our life’s work.

Can you see how our attitude toward every experience we have remains integral to our ability to negotiate life well? No experience or person should be ignored or forgotten, no matter how insignificant they may appear at the time.

Often, the people and experiences that seem irrelevant at the time end up being key players in our experience. Don’t waste a moment, take every person you meet, every experience you have and be grateful for them.

If you live your life with these principles … life will not just pass you by. Your ability to negotiate circumstances will be all you need to keep the momentum needed to continually move forward and reach your goals.
